Yorkie Names for Happy Yorkies

By Great-Yorkies

Yorkies tend to be cheerful, happy pups, so what better way to name them than with a name that means ‘happy’, ‘cheerful’ or ‘joyful’? Today we’ll explore names that have a link with happiness.

Use a WORD That Means 'Happy'

Sometimes a word from English or another language ends up being a great name for a puppy, and words that mean 'happy', 'cheerful' or 'joyful' are no exception. Let's take a look at some happy words as potential names for Yorkie puppies.

You might consider the following names:

  • Happy
  • Merry
  • Cheery
  • Perky
  • Twinkly
  • Jaunty
  • Sunny
  • Mirth

There are also two that would best suit a female Yorkie:

  • Joy
  • Gladys

My search of synonyms of 'happy' and 'cheerful' even produced 'pollyanna-like': Pollyanna could happily join this list of word-names!

Happy Names for Female Yorkies

Beata, Beatrice and Beatrix

These names all have a common derivation from Latin and mean happiness. They also have the most beautiful nickname: Trixie, which is such a happy, joyful name for a Yorkie puppy!

Bliss

This is an English word meaning ‘intense happiness’.

Blythe

This English name means ‘free spirit, happy and carefree’.

Felicity

From Latin and means ‘happy’. If 'Felicity' isn't quite right for your Yorkie, perhaps consider these lovely international variations: Felka (Polish) and Felicia (Spanish).

Gwyneth

A Welsh name: there are two possible meanings, one of which is ‘happy, blessed’. Some variations you might prefer are Winnie or Gwynna.

This is a unisex name, now seldom heard (although there is a very famous US Hilary). If Hilary doesn't quite seem right, consider the Italian variation: Ilaria.

Letitia

This is a pretty Latin name meaning ‘joy, happiness’. You might also consider its variations and derivatives: Leta, Leda, Lida and Leida.

Happy Names for Male Yorkies

Felix

This is a Latin name that may be forever linked to a very famous cartoon cat! Many think it means ‘happy’ it’s true derivation is ‘fortunate’. Despite its feline connections, it is a great name for a Yorkie.

Helgi

Isn't this a fantastic name? It's from Old Norse and means ‘productive, successful, happy’.

Hilary

A great male variation for Hilary is the Italian Ilario.

Jabulani

This African name, which means ‘be happy’, even sounds joyful! It could be shortened to Jabu or Lani
